The Drogs Under 19s travelled to Dalymount on Saturday and came away pointless after dominating the game for lengthy periods. They had numerous chances to put the game beyond Bohemians’ reach, but possession does not count for much if you can’t put the ball in the net.

Short a number of regulars, the Drogs fielded with Ollie Hamzat up front, who had impressed coming on as a sub in recent matches. They started well on a bumpy pitch and in the 3rd minute Ciaran Cluskey Kelly had a shot taken off the line after good work by Hamzat. But in the 13th minute, a careless ball out of defence gave possession to Bohs and the home team were one up. The Drogs hit back almost immediately and had chances from Ollie and Cluskey Kelly before Ollie struck the equaliser on 24 minutes, tucking the ball expertly into the corner after a good run through the middle by Fionn Reilly.

The Drogs had chances to take the lead on 33 and 41 minutes, but gave the ball away cheaply in the middle too often. They went in 1-1 at half time and continued to press as the second half got under way. The turning point in the match came on 58 minutes however when the Bohs left back was handed a second yellow and sent off for a rather innocuous tackle.

On the face of it, this was the Drogs’ chance to seize the initiative, but it was the home team who upped their commitment and they took the lead when they were gifted possession in the middle of the field and Dylan had no chance from a great Bohs strike.

Despite introducing 3 subs, it was not until the 84th minute that the Drogs threatened the Bohs goal when Fionn Reilly, who showed good control all through, struck a shot from the edge of the box which the home keeper brilliantly turned over the bar.

So, a first defeat and lessons to be learned by the Drogs – time to regroup during the week and prepare for a difficult away trip to Pats next weekend.
