Dun and Dusted!
Drogheda United secured their first derby win of the season in Oriel Park tonight with a convincing 1-2 defeat of neighbours Dundalk.
Dundalk went into the game boasting the record of being the only team in the Premier to be unbeaten at home. They return to the dressing room tonight shocked by their defeat at the hands of the 9th position Drogs. Despite securing an 86th minute goal and fighting hard in the dying minutes, Dundalk failed to level the score and salvage a point before the final whistle. Nailbiting doesn’t come close to describing the last 7 minutes of this game (with 3 minutes of added time).
Whether it was the FAI Ford Cup 3rd round win against Mervue on Monday night, the fact that Mick Cooke has indicated that he will be shaking things up during the transfer window or perhaps the introduction of former Dundalk player Tiarnan Mulvenna into the Boyneside squad, the fact remains that this was a wholly more confident and purposeful United side that travelled to Oriel tonight.
Mick Cooke has to feel that the tide is finally turning.
Well done one and all.
