Drogheda United will be celebrating 50 years of senior football in the town on Saturday 22nd June when a host of former players and managers will join current players, manager, club staff, supporters and friends at a Gala Dinner in the d Hotel.
The club is teaming up for the event with the local branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland which is currently engaged in a major fund-raising drive to build a much-needed day care centre for the town on a greenfield site at Greenhills.
MC for the night will be top League of Ireland analyst, Damian Richardson, and you can expect some surprise guests too.
To coincide with the 50th anniversary, the club is also organising a ‘Dream Team 50’ competition to find the best-ever players to have worn the United shirt down through the decades. Over the coming days we will have an online application form where you can enter the competition. The closing date is the 10th June, the night of our league match against Dundalk. The winner will be announced and receive a prize at the Gala Dinner.
Among the attractions on the night of the Gala Dinner will be an exhibition of United memorabilia, including old photographs, programmes etc.
Tickets priced at €35 for a full sit-down meal and musical entertainment are available from the clubhouse, the Drog Shop, Scotch Hall (Saturdays only), Rory’s barbers, Peter St. Drogheda, Noel Heeney/McFadden Sportswear, Drogheda St. Balbriggan or directly from Noel Heeney, Frank Pentony or Gene McKenna.
