Robbie Horgan has today signed former Drogheda United captain Paul Crowley.
Crowley enjoyed two stints with Drogheda from 2009-2010 and again for the 2012 season. He captained the club to their second ever League Cup win and to second position in the League during his second spell on the Boyneside.
Given his injury concerns last season, Crowley underwent a full and stringent medical today under the care of club physio Danny Miller and club doctor Conor Kelly which he passed with flying colours. Once Robbie Horgan got the green light, he was quick to snap up the club’s former captain.
Speaking this evening, Crowley said “I wasn’t happy to leave Drogheda at the end of 2012 having had such a great season there but these things happen in football and I’m just delighted to be back. There was such a spark between us all in 2012 and I am confident that we’ll get that back for 2014. I’ve spoken to some of the other lads today and already there’s a real sense of excitement among us. We can’t wait to get going.”
“Paul is a great leader and unifying force which he proved in 2012”, said Robbie Horgan. “With his signature today, I feel that we’ve shifted gear and we’re really motoring now. Paul has a point to prove and that’s exactly what I need him to do”.
