Drogheda United has today added another well-known face to its squad for 2014 with the signing of Philly Hughes.
Hughes has had a long career in the League of Ireland, spanning 13 years and played with, among others, Monaghan United, Dundalk and most recently Shelbourne and St. Patrick’s Athletic.
“I’ve said it before, it’s as much about the blend and character of players as it is about ability. I believe that Drogheda will suit Philly and he will suit Drogheda. He is busy, physically strong and can play no. 9 or 10 and will add a huge amount of experience and quality to the team,” said Robbie Horgan.
“Again he is a player who wants to prove a point and that’s the type of player that I want in my squad.”
The arrival of Hughes gives Horgan a range of options up top – the young striker Carl Walshe and two of the League’s veteran goalscorers – Declan ‘Fabio O’Brien and Hughes.
