Drogheda United are delighted to announce that Marc Griffin has re-signed for the club ahead of the 2017 season.
The forward joined Drogheda back in January from Bohemians and he would go on to make 28 appearances as United bounced back to the Premier Division at the first attempt.
Griffin scored his first goal for the Drogs in the 3-3 draw with Limerick at United Park back in August and also scored the opener in the crucial first leg victory over Cobh Ramblers in the semi-final of the promotion/relegation play-off.
With the core of last season’s squad re-signed for the new season, Drogheda United manager Pete Mahon was delighted to keep the talented 25-year-old on board.
“Marc finished the season in fine form and played a big part is us gaining promotion, as did the other players,” Mahon explained Monday evening. “He is fully recovered from his injury now and he is relishing the challenge of playing in the Premier Division once again.”
Griffin will be joined at United Park by Conor Kane with the 18-year-old making the move from St Patrick’s Athletic.
The left-back becomes the 17th member of the squad for 2017 and Mahon believes he will provide strong competition for a starting place in defence.
“Conor is an Ireland underage international who has played with St Pat’s after coming through the Cherry Orchard set-up. He is a very promising left-back who is more than capable of making the step-up.”
