Drogheda United are delighted to announce the signing of Ryan McEvoy pending international clearance while Jamie Hickey has rejoined the club.
26-year-old McEvoy joins the club from Australian side Essendon Royals while Hickey will serve as understudy to Stephen McGuinness in goal.
McEvoy made his league debut for Bohemians in a 1-0 win over Drogheda in 2009 before joining First Division sides Longford Town and Athlone Town on loan the following season.
The midfielder represented Bohs’ A Championship side in 2011 before enjoying a breakout season 12 months later as he netted five times in 19 appearances as the Gypsies finished sixth.
He was amongst the goals again a year on as McEvoy scored six times in 29 games as Bohs narrowly avoided relegation before an injury-hit campaign saw him feature only 11 times in 2014.
A move to Bray Wanderers saw him end his six-year stay at Dalymount Park and he was en ever-present for the Seagulls as they finished eight and he then joined Premier C side McKelvey Celtic in the off-season before departing for Australia.
McEvoy will be joined at Drogheda by Jamie Hickey who was previously with the club’s under 19s in 2015.
Both will add competition and depth to a strong 24-man squad as the Boynesiders kick-off their league campaign away to Galway United on Friday.
