Drogheda United registered their third successive draw on the bounce as they drew 0-0 with Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

For the fifth successive game, the Drogs drew a blank in front of goal as they go into the mid-season break outside the relegation zone in ninth place.

Drogheda boss Pete Mahon made three changes from the side that played Derry City last Friday as Colm Deasy, Ciaran McGuigan and Gavin Brennan were all drafted in to the starting XI.

The visitors started the brighter in a scruffy contest with Marc Griffin having the best opportunity when he was denied from close range by Bohs keeper Shane Supple.

On-loan Dundalk midfielder Georgie Poynton was the first to test Stephen McGuinness but his low strike from Keith Ward’s clever free-kick was well gathered.

Drogheda ended the half the stronger as Supple was once again called into action as he parried a low 25-yard drive from Adam Wixted.

The Boynesiders came the closest to breaking the deadlock in first-half stoppage as Jake Hyland’s header had the impressive Supple beaten only to be denied by Derek Pender’s goal line clearance.

Bohs were much improved after the break with long distance strikes from Faud Sule and Keith Ward both narrowly wide.

Former Drog Dinny Corcoran squandered a great chance to put his side in front on the hour mark though his swivel and strike failed to trouble McGuinness in goal.

Drogheda introduced new signing Ryan Masterson in search of a winner and he brought out a fine save from Supple as he cut in from the right before firing goalwards.

The Gypsies piled pressure on the Drogheda goal in the closing stages with Ward denied by a fine fingertip save from McGuinness with Colm Deasy then denying Corcoran as both sides had to settle for a point.

Drogheda will return to action in a fortnight when they host Dundalk in the Louth Derby at United Park.
