Drogheda United have slipped to the bottom of the table after they lost 2-0 to Finn Harps at United.
Goals in either half for the visitors condemned Drogheda to another defeat as their Premier Division survival hopes took a big blow.
Drogheda boss Pete Mahon made five changes from the side that lost 2-0 to Limerick last week as Lloyd Buckley, Kevin Farragher, Sean Thornton, Jake Hyland and Thomas Byrne were all drafted in.
It was a nightmare start for the Drogs as with four minutes played, Sean Brennan fouled Eddie Dsane on the edge of the box and the winger stepped up to curl the ball over the wall beyond Stephen McGuinness.
United responded well to going behind and they nearly equalised moments later when Thomas Byrne exchanged passes with Jake Hyland before seeing his long-range strike cannon back off the bar.
Ciaran McGuigan was introduced in place of Farragher early in the game and he was caught in possession on the edge of his own penalty area as McGuinness again came to the rescue denying McAleer from point blank range.
Both Conor Kane and Thornton dragged shots wide late in the first-half with Drogheda failing to trouble Ciaran Gallagher in goal.
Harps carried the great goalscoring threat on the break and they squandered a number of half-chances with Caolan McAleer and Danny Morrissey missing the target.
The best chance Drogheda had in the second-half was when the lively dribbled across the edge of the box before narrowly missing the top corner with a powerful drive.
Harps killed off the contest with ten minutes remaining as Sean Houston released Morrissey through on goal and despite a heavy touch, he squirmed the ball underneath McGuinness to seal a big three point.
Drogheda face another fellow relegation rival next week in Sligo Rovers knowing that time is rapidly running out on their season.
