Coming into this game the Drogs Under 19s injuries had begun to build up, and they lined out without Stephen Meaney, Lee Partridge, captain Sean Tunney, Nathan Seery and Sean Hughes, arguably their most talented players, and in the end they were beaten rather easily by a more skilful and committed Dundalk team.
The Drogs took the lead in the first minute after good work by Conor Grogan on the left forced a corner and Karl Fitzsimons struck a great shot to the net from 10-yards to give the home side the lead. On 12 minutes, the Drogs came close to doubling their lead when a great early cross from Sam Reilly on the right just eluded Mark Doyle and Eoin Broughan with the away defence in disarray.
As the first half progressed, the visitors got a controlling grip of the game in all departments and it was no surprise after 20 minutes when the home defence conceded a penalty which was expertly dispatched to the corner of the net by Jack O’Keefe. Dundalk took the lead on 38 minutes when a poor attempted pass out of defence by the Drogs ended with Ubaezuono scoring easily.
The second half is best forgotten by the Drogs and the visitors scored on 56, 68, and 73 minutes to complete a comprehensive victory.
