Drogheda United Under 17s made the trip to Sligo on Saturday and came away with a satisfactory 4-0 victory with two goals in the final minutes from Ugochukwu Anny-Nzekwue capping a good team performance.
The match kicked off in a lively fashion on the all weather pitch with little to choose between the sides with the Drogs hitting the Sligo bar on the half hour and they took the lead on 35 minutes when from a Darragh Curtin free on the left a well-placed header from Osasere Sere Ogiehor looped over the keeper’s head into the net.
The game was even enough for the remainder of the first half and the Drogs went in with a 1-0 lead at the break. The second half started evenly with both sides striving for the upper hand, and on 60 minutes one of Sligo’s central defenders got a straight red card for an injudicious tackle, and on the restart the Drogs worked the ball out to Kyle Robinson on the left and his great low shot have the visitors a 2-0 lead.
A man and two goals down, Sligo went on all out attack, but the Drogs did well to hold firm in the middle of the field and on 86 Minutes, with Sligo on the attack, a great through ball to Ugochukwu Anny-Nzekwue saw him calmly beat the keeper racing out of his goal and place the ball into the empty net and two minutes later Ugo found himself clear on the keeper and he slid the ball past him to cap a good victory for John Donohoe’s boys.
