Drogheda United v Bohemians (Rescheduled)
Match Preview and Information
Airtricity League of Ireland
Drogs 0 Bohs 1
Sometime soon our luck must change. After the erratic refereeing on Friday last, this latest encounter with Bohs was a very close affair, with a single goal separating the sides and an attack in the final minute by the Drogs just failing to cough up an equaliser. While on paper, Bohs would have been favourites, this game was desperately close all through and it surely will be a mattter of time before we end this losing run. With Eoghan Osbourne injured and Pete McMahon suspended, Yael Haro made his debut at the back and Darren Meenan, after his good display in Galway continued on the right of midfield with Ronan McEntageart on the right.
And early as the first minute we showed our intent when a good break down the middle saw Ryan and Darragh set up a chance for Glen, who was unlucky not to score. As we did in Galway, we moved the ball well from the back and plenty of times had the Bohs defence in difficulty. Bohs looked dangerous on the flanks and yael had his hands full with McGlynn all night. Eric slotted in well at right back and had a good contest with Quigley, culminating in Quigley getting the yellow in the second half for diving in the box. Despite strong pressure from Bohs in the first half, we coped well under pressure and a great move down the left with Ronan McEntageart on 20 minutes saw Yael deliver a great cross which only needed to be tipped into the net. We put the Bohs defence under serious pressure at times, but the first half ended scoreless.
We started the second half well and Ronan McEntageart was unlucky on 59 when he held off the Bohs defence well only to see his shot just shave the post. Bohs gradually came more into the match and the crucial moment in the match appeared to be when Darragh went off injured on 71 and 5 minutes later Gareth McGlynn just outfoxed us on the left to score a great goal for Bohs. Despite this setback we didn't stop trying and were denied an equaliser in the final minute when Eric McGill got to the byline and his great cross was deflected away by Brian Shelley's knee when it looked like we were certain to score, but that's football and we now have a week's break for Brian and Darius to get ready for the business end of the season.
