Drogs 0 Shamrock Rovers 2
The Drogs had enough chances in this match to get a result, but like last week's match in Fingal, they inexplicably failed to find the net in the first half and paid dearly when Rovers came with a late surge. With the poor form of the first team, Jamie Duffy, John Flood, Eric McGill and Paul Skinner lined out, but the most significant appearance was that of Damien Brennan, playing his first competitive match for the Club after a string of injuries. And it was a welcome debut and his exemplary play and authoritive manner surely makes him a certainty for first team action on Monday night against Bohs given our poor form at centre back in recent games.
Paul Skinner lined out in goals with Stephen Murphy partnering Brennan at the back. Good midfield work by McGill and Kerr provided a good platform for the front two poor decision making up front and bad luck ensured that it was 0-0 at half time.
Under-18 keeper Alex Reilly made a competent debut for the second half and a brilliant reflex save on 80 minutes prevented a certain goal. The second half substitutions by the Drogs coincided with a drop in performance levels and Rovers scored two late goals, but there were plenty of good performances around the pitch.
Team: Skinner (Reilly 45), Healy, Kierans, Murphy, Brennan (Hoey 60), E. McGill (Ross), Montando, Kerr, McEntagert. Flood Duffy.
