Gareth McCaffrey

Gareth McCaffrey

Gareth emerged through the youth system at Stella Maris and before representing Hibernian in Scotland.

He then joined Shamrock Rovers in 2015 where he would make fifteen league appearances for the club, scoring once in a 1-1 draw with Bohemians.

Gareth re-signed for Rovers in January 2016 but a lack of first-team opportunities saw him join Pete Mahon’s Drogheda United on loan in July. He was a revelation for the Drogs as he scored six times in 12 appearances including strikes in either leg of the play-off against Cobh Ramblers. as they earned promotion to the Premier Division.

Despite significant competition for his signature, Gareth joined Drogheda on a permanent deal in November. He scored the winner on the opening night away at Galway United and netted again against Sligo Rovers before departing the club in May.

A short spell at Cabinteely was to follow before the forward returned to Drogheda in December 2017 to sign for new manager Tim Clancy.
