Having progressed through the Dundalk youth team, Ryan departed the club to move to American and join the University of San Diego in California.
It was in the summer of 2014 that he rejoined the League of Ireland by signing for Athlone Town and Ryan was an ever-present for the remainder of the campaign. He was on the move again the following season to Sligo Rovers where he had only limited opportunities to impress.
A return to Athlone in 2016 only lasted three months before he moved to Tony Cousins’ Longford Town where he was unable to stop the midlanders relegation to the First Division.
Ryan joined Pete Mahon’s newly promoted Drogheda in March 2017 and he made his debut in the EA Sports Cup loss to Bray Wanderers.
